The exposure to RF radiation caused by 5G, according to Juhi Chawla's petition, will have catastrophic, irreversible repercussions on humans and animals.
Actress Juhi Chawla filed a petition in the Delhi high court on Monday opposing the introduction of 5G wireless network technology in India, citing concerns about the impact of radiation on residents, animals, flora, and fauna. According to the petition, 5G will expose all living beings on Earth to 100 times the current level of RF exposure, resulting in catastrophic, irreversible consequences on humanity.
The case was shifted to another bench for hearing on June 2 by Justice C Hari Shankar, who presided over the hearing.
"We have ample reason to believe that the radiation is incredibly hazardous and destructive to the health and safety of the people," the performer remarked, adding that she is not opposed to technological progress.
Her petition, filed through attorney Deepak Khosla, cites clinical and experimental evidence of damage to DNA, cells, and organ systems in plants and animals to claim that the major diseases of modern civilization - cancer, heart disease, and diabetes - are caused in large part by electromagnetic pollution produced by wireless mobile phone technology.
"The present suit is being instituted, in order to seek a direction from this Hon'ble court to the arrayed defendants, to certify to us and, thus, to the public at large, that 5G technology is safe to human kind, man, woman, adult, child, infant, animals and every type of living organism, to flora, to fauna," Juhi Chawla's spokesperson said in a statement.
